Saucony Fastwitch 7 Review

Finally! I always have difficulty finding racing shoes that fit. 99% of the time, they are too narrow. With that being said, the Fastwitch 7 is just right.

I’ve raced in the Fastwitch in the past – in fact, I still use the Fastwitch 3 every now and again. With that being said, I tried the 4, 5 and 6, and none of them were for me.

The Fastwitch 7 is super comfortable. The upper is a great material – very breathable! The toebox is a decent size and I wouldn’t change anything about the fit.

I sized up about a half size – if you usually fall between sizes, go bigger. If you usually fall right on a size, you should be fine.

The shoes have a 19mm heel and a 15mm forefoot – a 4mm drop.

The size 10.5 was 7.7 ounces on my scale – perfect!

The Fastwitch 7 has a decent sole for a racer – I find that many shoes are too smooth. Perhaps it is the trail runner in me, but I like a little grip. This shoe provides just enough.

– weight – perfect for racing
– fit – very comfortable!
– sole – just enough grip
– drop – 4mm is perfect for racing
– price – $75.95 on Running Warehouse (get 10% off with code RUNBLOG10)

I’ve never run in Saucony’s, but those look mighty fast. Thanks for the review!

How do they feel compared to the fastwitch 4? I still run 5ks in the 4s occasionally. Do the 7s have the same amount of support do you think? Do they feel like they are just as firm or softer? I’m trying to find a light shoe for my next marathon with enough support. Thanks for reviewing these!

I think they feel pretty similar to the 4s. I would say they are just as firm, and the overall fit is quite similar. If anything, I think the upper is a nice improvement – it’s a little smoother/softer. Definitely give them a try!

Is the fit similar to the 5’s and 6’s? Good review!

    • Jason says:

Yes. Except you may need to size up a half size (I did). It was close – I’d recommend trying what you wore for the 6 and also trying a half size bigger.

What didn’t you like about the Fastwitch 6? They were pretty good for me. The current design on the 7 looks radically different. It would be nice to hear your thoughts on how the 6 and 7s differ

    • Jason says:

I didn’t like the material of the upper, it was a little narrow for me and I thought the traction with the sole was pretty bad. Those were my three main gripes 🙂 I do think this shoe is quite different, but I think it’s similar to the old Fastwitch models.

Hi I’m deciding between this shoe and the asics gel hyper speed 6- would you say this is as good as the asics gel hyper speed 6 (despite the weight difference), equal or worse? Also does this shoe have good durability- e.g. How many miles did you run before it shows signs of tear?

    • Jason says:

In my opinion, these are quite similar – I prefer the Fastwitch because it feels like better quality and the toe box is a little bit wider. Of course, the downside is that it’s a little bit heavier. The Fastwitch will last approximately 500km, in my opinion.

Hi Jason, I got these a month ago and then PB:d on my first race of the season (half-marathon)! Now, I have so far only used them in dry weather, but do you have any experience of using them in wet conditions? I have a marathon come Saturday, and reports promise heavy rain. The perforated sole makes me suspicious.

    • Jason says:

I’m wary of all racing shoes when it’s wet! I think you should be fine on straight sections, and I think you will get acceptable traction, but I’d be very cautious going around turns! Best of luck with your race!

What do you think?
