I haven’t posted much lately so I figured it was time for a quick update. April was a rough month. I was sick from start to finish and I DNF’d my only race of the month. I still have a lingering cough, although it’s slighly better now.

On the positive side, I’ve done some speed workouts lately, and I’ve mysteriously retained a good bit of speed from my younger days. Yesterday, I ran a 4:52 mile, which is my fastest mile in at least 10 years. It made me curious how fast I could go with a little bit of training.

On the negative side, my longest run of the last month was about 7 miles, and I’m still coughing a bit.

As far as races, I signed up for Vegan Power in June. I’m not sure what kind of shape I’ll be in, but I plan on doing this race regardless. I’m very conflicted about Cayuga Trails. The 50 is out. It’s just not going to happen. I’m totally bummed about this, but I’m not going to show up and run knowing that the result will be lousy. I’m already in a bad place mentally, and another DNF definitely would not help. A long run of 7 miles just doesn’t cut it for a competitive 50-mile race. With that being said, I’m considering the marathon. I’ll probably decide in the next week or so.

Finally, I managed to cover over a thousand miles for the first third of the year. It was a relatively mild winter, and I have no complaints about that!

When is your next race? How is your training going?

  1. Glad to hear you’re getting better! Next race here is 7 Sisters this weekend, then Cayuga – if you jump in for the marathon, I’ll see you there!

Bummed to hear about Cayuga, but I think it’s the right choice. Hope to see you at Vegan Power!

  3. Congrats on that mile time. Wow. Deciding between a road marathon and a trail 50K in a couple of weeks.
