Race Results

If you’ve been following along, you know that I was planning on running an indoor track meet last weekend. I’d been planning it for weeks! I got up Sunday morning, put on my race outfit, dusted off my spikes, printed off the entry form… and realized that the meet was Saturday. Oops! Every other meet was on Sunday so I just assumed…

Anyhow, that means I don’t have any results for you! BUT, my first road race of the year is exactly one month from today. Finally!

My Training

Training is going well. My mileage is still about 6% ahead of last year’s mileage. With that being said, I’m taking an unscheduled off day today. What?! In 2014, I took one unscheduled off day the entire year! After my workout Monday, I felt a teeny, tiny, itsy, bitsy, little tweak in my right ankle area. I ran easy yesterday and it was still there.

Initially, I thought it could be achilles tendonitis, an issue I’ve had in the past. After reflecting a bit, I think it might be peroneal tendonitis. Regardless, I didn’t have a big workout planned for today – just an easy seven miles – and I figured it would be better to skip it. No need to poke the bear! If I feel 100% better this weekend, I can always add a double.

Ten years ago, I wouldn’t have taken a day off. I would have kept going until it didn’t allow me to. However, now, I’m older and wiser (and lazier). A day off? Sure, why not? Better safe than sorry!

Anyhow, I’ll pick things up tomorrow and see where I’m at. I’m not that worried. Oh, by the way, the wind chill is 11 degrees right now. 11 DEGREES. Spring, wtf?!

Do you take days off with minor injuries?

Does it still feel like the Arctic where you live?

Funny about the track race – oops. I’m older and wiser myself and back-off before I really hurt. I learned the hard way. It’s arctic here until noon and then warms up for the afternoon. Ice and mud! Least favourite things.

I love those ecards! Nowadays, I do take time off with minor injuries. I’ve had enough major injuries to realize that one day off now is better than weeks off later. It’s’ freakin’ freezing in upstate, NY right now.

  4. It’s smart, not lazy, to take the day off! I am sure it will feel better tomorrow as a result of the rest.

What do you think?
