Bring It On, Treadmill.

Yesterday, I managed 15 miles on the treadmill. It took slightly less than two hours. It was the longest that I’ve ever run on a treadmill.

Here’s how I managed to pass the time:

  • 34-minute warm-up run listening to Talk Ultra: Episode 81
  • 37-minute tempo run (still listening to Talk Ultra)
  • 42-minute cooldown run listening to: Vance Joy, The Lowest Pair, Beck, Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors, Great Lake Swimmers and Brandi Carlile

Really, I think it was the tempo that got me through it – working hard(er) definitely breaks up the monotony. Basically, I was like:

Anyhow, I’m heading back outside today. Sure, it’s March 6th and the wind chill is five degrees below zero. We’ll call it the lesser of two evils…

How long is your longest treadmill run?

    1. I think the longest I’ve done is 13 or 14km but I run regularly on the treadmill as my husband is away a lot and we have little kids. Way to go!

I absolutely HATE doing easy treadmill runs and nearly always mess with the speed/incline a bit to break up the monotony of a treadmill run. It seems to make the time go by faster for some reason. My longest treadmill run was 17 miles and I think I did it by alternating faster and slower miles.

Nice job on the tready fine sir! My longest treadmill run to date on the treadmill for me is 16 miles of cruel and unusual punishment.

    4. Ugh I’m sick to death of the treadmill- did 16 miles on one last Saturday. It’s not so much the cold down in Maryland, but all this snow & ice covering the sidewalks & trails that refuses to melt!
I definitely agree that breaking up the run with a tempo portion helps the time pass. Here’s to hoping spring weather hits us soon 🙂

I completely agree – the temps are a nuisance, but the real problem is the lack of safe space for runners – it’s dangerous out there right now!

I just did one last week. 17 miles on the treadmill. It was terrible. Like you said, you have to pick the lesser of the two evils! I think it was -15 outside when I started. That’s just too cold to be out there for that long in my opinion.

    6. Ugh I did 16 on the TM a couple of winters ago when I was training for Boston. Misery. After that, all I can manage on the treadmill is an hour before I have to hop off and do some time on the indoor track instead. What a winter this has been!!
