La Sportiva Helios SR Review

Before I start the review, I have to say, this is the best looking off-road shoe I’ve ever seen. The Helios SR by La Sportiva is pretty awesome. La Sportiva markets the Helios SR as a shoe for sky races and vertical competitions. However, I think the shoe is more versatile than that. I think it could be used for a plain-jane 50k or 50-miler if minimalism is your thing.

The shoe weighs in at 8.3 ounces (size 10.5/43.5).

It has a 21mm heel and a 19mm forefoot – a 2mm drop.

The shoe is very flexible and it fits a little snug, but not too snug. It’s actually rather perfect – like putting on a slipper to hit the trails – but not just any slipper – a slipper with some badass tread. With that being said, you may want to size-up a half size.

The shoe is very well-made. The materials are top quality. La Sportiva hasn’t quite hit the mainstream U.S. shoe market and that is a shame – the company has some excellent offerings.

What else can I say? The Helios SR nailed it.

Pros:

– weight – 8.3 ounces is perfect for racing
– appearance – this shoe is badass
– nice outsole
– more versatile than advertised

Cons:

– price – Running Warehouse sells the Helios SR for $125 (get 10% off with code RUNBLOG10).
