The Rocky Raccoon 100-Miler was this weekend and it yielded some impressive results.
Nicole Studer recorded the fastest time ever by an American woman in a 100-mile trail race. Her winning time was 14:22:18. This broke Traci Falbo’s record that was set in late 2014. Remarkably, Jenn Shelton held the American record for 7 years and Traci hung onto it for a mere two months. For the first time in a long time, Ann Trason’s 100-mile road record (13:47:41) looks vulnerable should Nicole make an attempt at it.
Ian Sharman came from behind to win the men’s race.

Meanwhile, local elite Elizabeth Lucason was at it again. The 10-year-old star braved frigid temperatures to take 1st place at the Couch Potato 5k. Her winning time was 18:32 (5:58/mile).
That same time would have placed her 42nd at NXN and 26th at Foot Locker XC Nationals.

My Upcoming Races
I still have my eye on a Syracuse Chargers indoor track meet on February 15th.
January was a pretty good month. I managed 254 miles and some decent vertical. Last year, I ran 243 miles, so this was a slight improvement. However, I’ve done numerous speed workouts, so that is a big improvement.
With that being said, I’m taking today off. Winter storm Linus has blanketed the area in a bit of snow, and I’m not interested in hitting the treadmill for a third straight day. Quite frankly, I think I’m ready for a day off.
My fruit diet is going well! I’ll post an update on that later this week.
Finally, for those who are curious, I picked the red jacket! Thanks for your feedback and assistance!
