The Dolomites vertical kilometer was today – one of the big questions was whether or not Kilian Jornet would run. As you recall, he finished the Hardrock 100 just six days ago in record time.

About 24 hours ago, Kilian posted on Facebook that he was in the Dolomites but he was still on the fence about racing.

He posted on Facebook again today, and it was pretty clear that he was ready to go! Well, more or less.

The Dolomites course is very beautiful – the vertical looks something like this:

The Italians are very friendly – they provide directions to the start:

Kilian, still recovering from Hardrock, wears Bib No. 1 since he took the win here last year and set the course record of 32:43.

Sometimes, even the greatest mountain/ultra runner in the world thinks “What have I gotten myself into?”

Kilian gave it his best – but he would not top the podium on this day.

At least we know Killian is human!! I can’t imagine doing that right after Hardrock… I’d have to be carried up haha

  3. Looks like a pretty intense course!

That incline looks tough on the calves, quads and the mind 🙂
