Merrell All Out Rush Review

My favorite thing about Merrell shoes is the wide toebox – these did not disappoint! In fact, these shoes were very comfortable right out of the box. I think they are a very good-looking shoe and they feel well-made. I’ve included pictures/links to several male and several female versions of the shoe.

The shoes have about a 7mm drop and the men’s size 10 weighed in at 10.6 ounces on my scale (this is somewhat notable because Merrell lists them at 9.3 ounces).

The length of the shoe was normal but I think they were a tiny bit wide in the heel area. I didn’t think they were too wide but there might be a little bit of slipping.

The shoes have a very rugged outsole, which is a good thing on the trails! However, I think it made them a little stiff. Personally, I prefer a little bit more flexibility between the midfoot and forefoot.

These shoes have a badass tread! I think they are best-suited for soft trails and mud. However, they would probably do well on other types of trails too. I think they would definitely feel a bit firm on pavement.

If I were looking for a hiking/outdoors shoe, this would be it! I would get them in a second. However, for running, they are not my top choice. I think they are a little too stiff, and at 10.6 ounces, I think they are caught between being a racer and being a trainer.

Pros:
– wide toebox
– comfortable feel
– well-made
– great tread

Cons:
– a little stiff
– at 10.6 ounces, I think they’re a little heavy for racing
– a little pricey at $120 (Merrell website)

I like them for hiking….running not so sure I was going to do an ultra in August but I got closed out of it…the north country ultra in Michigan

  2. I find it hard to find good minimalist hiking shoes. I’ll have to check them out, even though a 7 mm drop is a little too high for me.
    Are they durable?
Thank you for following my blog.

Very durable! The drop was actually a little tricky to measure on these because of the way the sole was designed – it may be a little closer to 6mm (not sure if that 1mm difference is persuasive or not).

  3. I am glad I ran into your review. I might have picked up a pair of these shoes for running but now I see they may be better for hiking. I don’t hike much anymore so I guess I will keep looking. Thanks for the informative review.
