My race-day outfit is all picked out! Here’s what I’ll be wearing:
This is a tough race to select shoes for. There’s the single track, which you could use road flats on; the muddy sections, which you want lugs for; and the stairs – I’m not sure what you want for those! I’m going with the Everlongs because I’ve always felt more comfortable in a road-style shoe.
Swiftwick Aspire One Socks
These are the best socks out there. Enough said.
These aren’t the exact shorts I run in but they’re pretty close. They only have one pocket on each side, which I don’t love, but they have a compression liner that I don’t want to go without.
The North Face Better Than Naked Singlet
This is the singlet I picked back in April – I bet the suspense has been killing you!
…And a Hat
I’m not sure which hat to run in! I did my last ultra in the B.H. hat and it went well. However, it’s going to be hot and sunny on Sunday so maybe a lighter hat would be better. This is going to be a last minute decision! (Sadly, they both clash with the rest of my outfit)
Gen UCAN is my go-to drink. I’ll be able to carry about six scoops or so with me – ideally, I’d only drink Gen UCAN for the race but I don’t want to be a mule either.
Nathan SpeedDraw and Nathan QuickDraw
I’ll be carting around my fluids in a Nathan SpeedDraw (first 25 miles) and a Nathan QuickDraw (second 25 miles). I prefer the feel of the SpeedDraw but it holds a little less fluid and it is a little trickier to refill.
Let’s face it – gels are terrible. These are the least terrible ones out there. Not only that, they are excellent fuel. So there you have it.
I’m hoping to get down two Picky Bars during the race. I ate one when I “practiced” on the course and I managed okay. Hopefully, I’m able to replicate that effort on race day.
GU, GU, GU
The race is providing lots of GU! I don’t love it but I’ve been practicing with it the last few weeks and my stomach can tolerate it (even if my taste buds cannot). I’m hoping they have orange. If my lips are blue in my race photos…
So my preparation is basically complete… just a few odds and ends to take care of..
